Crossing Guard Appreciation Week

The South Carolina Department of Transportation’s Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program and its Resource Center are proud to sponsor South Carolina Crossing Guard Appreciation Week, which occurs the third week of every November! Mark your calendar for November 13th through November 17th, 2017

Schools and communities are encouraged to use this week-long celebration to recognize the role that crossing guards play in helping keep our students safe as they walk and bicycle to and from school!

See below for a list of event ideas and resources to help with your Crossing Guard Appreciation Week efforts!

  • Nominate a crossing guard at your school as an Outstanding Crossing Guard.
  • Present your crossing guards with a Certificate of Recognition.
  • Have your students sign Thank You cards for your crossing guards. Click here to download a thank you card template for female crossing guards and a thank you card template for male crossing guards.
  • Feature your crossing guard(s) in your school’s newsletter, morning news, or on the website.
  • Organize a “Meet and Greet” event for your families to get to know your crossing guard(s).
  • Invite your crossing guard to speak with classes about pedestrian safety. Print out the Crossing Guard Pocket Guide for your crossing guards.
  • Work with your school’s PTO or PTA to provide breakfast for the crossing guard.
  • Create a banner and hang it up at the crossing guard’s post before they arrive for work as a surprise!
